The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999, section 76) requires the Ministers of the Environment and of Health to establish a Priority Substances List (PSL) that identifies substances to be assessed on a priority basis to determine whether they are toxic (as defined under Section 64 of the Act) and pose a risk to the health of Canadians or to the environment. Assessments of substances placed on the PSL are the shared responsibility of Environment Canada and Health Canada. A Priority Substance may be a chemical, a group or class of chemicals, effluents or wastes. 1, record 1, English, - Priority%20Substances%20List

La Loi canadienne sur la protection de l'environnement, 1999 [LCPE (1999), article 76] stipule que les ministres de l'Environnement et de la Santé doivent dresser une Liste des substances d'intérêt prioritaire (LSIP) qui indique les substances prioritaires à évaluer afin de déterminer si elles sont toxiques (en vertu de l'article 64 de la Loi) et représentent un risque pour la santé des Canadiens ou l'environnement. La responsabilité de l'évaluation des substances figurant sur la LSIP est partagée entre Environnement Canada et Santé Canada.
