Pour signifier un trou qui bifurque, souvent à angle droit, l'Europe francophone utilise surtout le terme anglais «dog-leg» écrit aussi «dog leg» ou «dogleg». Au Canada français, l'usage de «coude» est répandu. L'Office de la langue française du Québec recommande également les termes «trou tournant» et «trou coudé» pour remplacer l'anglicisme «dogleg»; «allée coudée», «racé coudé» et «déviation» l'ont déjà été mais ne le sont plus. Il n'y a pas lieu d'utiliser les calques «patte de chien» et «chien de fusil», et «tracé coudé» et «trou avec virage» définissent les notions plus qu'il ne constituent des termes. Pour la France, l'Arrêté du 11 décembre 1992 relatif à la terminologie du sport publié dans le Journal officiel de la République française du 20 janvier 1993 recommande «chien de fusil» pour remplacer «dog leg», tout en ajoutant que les termes «allée coudée» et «trou coudé» sont utilisés au Canada; il n'est pas question de «coude», même si la définition se lit : «Trou dont le tracé dessine un coude très accentué». 3, record 1, French, - coude
