Many former residential school sites in Canada include a cemetery and it has been suggested that a majority may include an unmarked burial site. At this time there is not sufficient information to confirm how many marked or unmarked burial sites exist, however, investigations are ongoing.... The term "unmarked burial" emerged during the TRC [Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada] process to describe the physical sites of former residential schools and where survivors or communities indicated burial sites. It was noted that often there was no formal designation of those sites as cemeteries. 1, record 2, English, - unmarked%20burial

Following the May 27, 2021 news release from Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc on the discovery of unmarked and undocumented burials at the site of the Kamloops Indian Residential School (KIRS), the preliminary reports indicated use of the term "unmarked burial." After the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc May 31, 2021 press release, news agencies have updated their usage of the term "mass graves" and instead have used "unmarked burials" consistently. 1, record 2, English, - unmarked%20burial

A burial vault is a sealed outer container into which as casket is placed prior to its underground interment or burial in a cemetery. Its use will provide added protection for both the casket and deceased, particularly where there are poor soil conditions and high ground water levels. It will also support the weight of the earth and heavy equipment that may pass over the grave, thus substantially reducing problems at the graveside and, in turn, cemetery costs. 4, record 44, English, - burial%20vault

2, record 46, French, - translation%20de%20cimeti%C3%A8re

Ottawa, Canadian Heritage. Generally, "Religious Objects" are used in a context of worship. They deal with a religious subject or have religious symbolism. Religious objects are also associated with members of the church community, for instance, religious orders, nuns or priests. Religious objects adorn places of worship and are used in devotions or in ceremonies. They may also be found outside the walls of a church, in a house or in a cemetery, or as in the case with the objects presented here, in a museum. The Religious Objects Database contains more than 300 records of objects with corresponding images. Through these objects and the relevant information which accompanies each, you will discover the richness of a cultural and religious heritage. The data are written in the language of each museum or institution responsible for the care of the objects and has not been translated. 1, record 56, English, - Religious%20Objects%20Database

The Ontario Association of Cemetery & Funeral Professionals(OACFP) is a non-profit provincial association founded in 1913. Formerly known as the Ontario Association of Cemeteries, the association was initially created as a vehicle for Ontario's cemeterians to exchange ideas and information in order to maintain high professional operations standards and customer service levels. Our cemetery members represent all types of cemetery ownership-municipal, religious, not-for-profit, and commercial, and service approximately 85% of all burials and cremations in the province annually. 1, record 60, English, - Ontario%20Association%20of%20Cemetery%20%26%20Funeral%20Professionals

During the 1820s, 1830s and 1840s, garden cemeteries were founded in most cities in Britain. Their characteristic appearance owes much to a British tradition of naturalistic landscape design but has particular resonances in the context of death and mourning in the nineteenth century. This article considers some of the factors that have been significant in the development of the British landscape cemetery, including public health, class relationships and foreign influences(particularly that of Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris). It is argued that none of these things explains the popularity of this particular form of cemetery in Britain; rather, the garden cemetery offered an appealing and appropriate landscape for remembering the dead and mediating the relationship between the dead and the bereaved. 2, record 61, English, - park%20cemetery

2, record 61, French, - cimeti%C3%A8re%20parc
