A new agreement between Elections Canada and Statistics Canada will allow both agencies to create maps more efficiently and help the federal government collect census data. The joint initiative is called the National Geocartographic Database and is based on the fact that both partners use similar street network data. Until the 1990s, both bodies worked on paper map bases. The new agreement brings geographic databases into the digital age.

Une nouvelle entente entre Élections Canada et Statistique Canada permettra aux deux agences de produire des cartes de façon plus efficace, en plus d'aider le gouvernement fédéral à recueillir des données de recensement. L'initiative conjointe, appelée base de données géocartographiques nationale, découle du fait que les deux partenaires utilisent des données semblables par réseau routier.
