Occasionally, circumstances arise whereby an urgent expenditure becomes necessary at a time when Parliament is not in session, and there is no appropriation pursuant to which payment may be made. This could occur when Parliament is dissolved during a period of interim supply. Section 23 of the Financial Administration Act, which permits the appropriation, is applicable whenever Parliament is dissolved or when it has been adjourned either for an unspecified period or until a date more than two weeks after the date of the order directing that the warrant be issued. A Governor General’s Warrant is an appropriation for the fiscal year in which it is issued. The following conditions apply: 1. The Great Seal of Canada is one of the oldest and most venerated instruments of our government. Since the earliest days of [the] nation, Canada's most important documents have been made official through its imprint. The Great Seal signifies the power and authority of the Crown flowing from the sovereign to [the] parliamentary government. The Great Seal has both ceremonial and administrative purposes. Each time a new governor general is installed in Canada, he or she is solemnly charged with custody of the Seal as representative of the Crown. It is used on all state documents, such as Royal proclamations and commissions issued for the appointment of Cabinet ministers, lieutenant governors, senators and judges. 2, record 23, English, - Great%20Seal%20of%20Canada

State dinners and other official occasions at Rideau Hall offer many opportunities to showcase our nation's culinary excellence with the finest of Canadian ingredients and wines. Rideau Hall also houses the best of Canadian furniture and art continuing a tradition started by Pauline Vanier, the spouse of former Governor General Georges Vanier(1959-1967), who began "Canadianizing" a room of Rideau Hall known as the "Canadiana Room". Now this room has been renamed the "Pauline Vanier Room". The Pauline Vanier Room is a showcase of Canada's heritage in arts and crafts. The Governor General and guests of Rideau Hall often use it as a location for media interviews. Part of the original McKay house, the room has had several uses since 1838. For a time, it even served as gentlemen's smoking room. In 1959, Madame Vanier decided to vote the space to the display of some of the best examples of Canadian decorative arts. 1, record 24, English, - Pauline%20Vanier%20Room

5, record 58, French, - motion%20de%20censure

KNEEl JUMP. In this event, the contestant sits on the floor at a given line and must have his/her feet flat on the floor with the bottoms up. From this position, he/she then jumps as far forward as possible, lands on his/her feet, and maintains balance. The contestant is allowed to swing his/her arms back and forth to gain momentum for the leap forward. The practicality of this event comes from the quickness and balance one has to have while being on the moving ice during break up. 4, record 80, English, - kneel%20jump

Lord Dufferin, Canada's third Governor General after Confederation, created the Academic Medals in 1873 to encourage academic excellence across the nation. Over the years, they have become the most prestigious award that students in Canadian schools can receive. Today, the Governor General' s Academic Medals are awarded at four distinct levels : Bronze at the secondary school level; Collegiate Bronze at the post-secondary, diploma level; Silver at the undergraduate level; and Gold at the graduate level. Medals are presented on behalf of the Governor General by participating educational institutions, along with personalized certificates signed by the Governor General. There is no monetary award associated with the Medal. 1, record 97, English, - Governor%20General%27s%20Academic%20Medals

1, record 97, French, - M%C3%A9daille%20acad%C3%A9mique%20du%20Gouverneur%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9ral
