HALF POLE [7 records]

Record 1 2015-02-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Magnetism
DEF

A mathematically simple magnetic field, having an axis of symmetry, with magnetic field lines pointing outward along one half of the axis(positive pole) and inward along the negative half of the axis(negative pole). Most magnetic fields that are sufficiently remote from their source resemble a dipole field.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Magnétisme
CONT

Record 2 2011-07-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Lighting Fixtures
  • Urban Planning
DEF

An outside lighting installation fitted to a pole and comprising, unless otherwise indicated, a support no longer than two and a half metres, a reflector inside a metal case, a bulb and a refractor, and including in some instances a photoelectric cell.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Luminaires
  • Aménagement urbain
DEF

Record 3 2008-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
DEF

The upper or lower half of the breast.

CONT

Upper pole fullness describes a rounded, full area of the upper breast often seen in overfilled, round implants. Lower pole constriction describes the lower half of the breast to be constricted and result in a small crease to areola ratio. Dissection can prove disastrous if done incorrectly resulting in bottoming out.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Morphologie et physiologie générale
CONT

Record 4 2006-06-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
CONT

Most of the remote sensing satellite platforms today are in near-polar orbits, which means that the satellite travels northwards on one side of the Earth and then toward the southern pole on the second half of its orbit. These are called ascending and descending passes, respectively.

OBS

descending pass: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lancement et manœuvres dans l'espace
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Astronomy
CONT

[The celestial meridian is] one half of a great circle of the celestial sphere passing through the zenith of a given place and terminating at the celestial poles; the hour circle that contains the zenith, or the vertical circle that contains the celestial pole.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Astronomie
CONT

Record 7 1998-04-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Engineering
CONT

Edouard Branly [is a] French physicist and inventor of the coheror employed in wireless telegraphy...

CONT

It consists in a glass tube filled with metal filings which acts as an insulator when placed in a circuit comprising a battery and a galvanometer. However, if an electric spark is created some distance away, it becomes a conductor and lets the current pass into the circuit. When the tube is tapped lightly it becomes an insulator again and interrupts the current.

CONT

Next to the rock, the boy held a two and a half meter long pole, along which ran a metallic wire, probably connected to a Branly coherer, a battery, and a bell.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électrotechnique
DEF

Premier détecteur d'ondes hertziennes, inventé par Branly.

CONT
