Rosuvastatin is an antilipemic agent that competitively inhibits hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A(HMG-CoA) reductase. HMG-CoA reductase catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonic acid, the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis.
