The structure of the NAICS, to be adopted by Statistics Canada in 1997 to replace the 1980 Standard Industrial Classification(1980 SIC), is currently being developed by the statistical agencies of Canada, Mexico and the United States. Agreements on the proposed structures for the following areas have been signed by the three countries at a meeting held in Ottawa on May 18 and 19, 1995. The agreements are for Petroleum and Coal Products Manufacturing, Chemical Manufacturing, and Rubber and Plastic Products Manufacturing; Broadcasting and Telecommunications; Food Services and Drinking Places, and Accommodation.
