The System uses a constellation of satellites placed in orbit at an altitude of 20, 178 km. They complete their circular orbits in half a sidereal day, that is 11 hr 57 min. These satellites emit two sets of signals on 1, 227MHz [megahertz] and 1, 575 MHz in the L-band. These signals carry the transmitting satellites’ identification and position, as well as the time and other information. The airborne equipment is entirely passive. It consists of a receiver whose position is determined by measuring its distance from four of the system's satellites. 9, record 14, English, - Navigation%20Satellite%20Timing%20and%20Ranging%20Global%20Positioning%20System

Riometers measure the absorption of radio-noise from the stars(’cosmic-noise’) in the ionosphere. They make continuous observations of the noise-level and observe deceases in noise relative to the quiet-day level, when high-energy electrons and protons precipitate and cause increased ionisation. 4, record 37, English, - riometer

The barrel reactor, as the name implies, is a cylindrical container which can be evacuated. The RF power, usually at 13. 56 MHz frequency is applied to the system via internal or external electrodes by capacitive or inductive coupling. This type of reactor is used for the plasma ashing process and also for the plasma etching process, although the disadvantage in the latter for some users is that the process is not completely isotonic so that undercutting can occur. 2, record 68, English, - barrel%20reactor

The principle of operation for the active hydrogen maser is based upon a 5 MHz quartz crystal oscillator, phase locked to the hyperfine transition of the hydrogen atom. The atomic hydrogen signal generated within the physics package is then picked up by an antenna in the cavity and coupled to the synchronization unit, which synchronizes the 5 MHz crystal oscillator signal phase to the hydrogen signal phase producing the 5 MHz and 100 MHz spectrally pure sine-wave signal output. 2, record 74, English, - active%20hydrogen%20maser

A radio spectrometer has been built on Bruny Island, south of Hobart, for the study of solar bursts in the rarely observed frequency range from 3 to 20 MHz. This spectrometer is an adaptive device that employs digital techniques to avoid most of the strong terrestrial interference prevalent in this frequency range. The residual interference that cannot be avoided is excised during off-line processing. As a result, successful observations are made down to the minimum frequency that can propagate through the ionosphere to the antenna. This minimum frequency depends upon the zenith distance of the Sun and it is usually between 4 and 8 MHz. 2, record 75, English, - radio%20spectrometer

British made Search And Rescue And Homing(SARAH) beacon SRI 23006 was a UHF rescue beacon comprising speech unit, transmitter/receiver unit, coding unit and combined LT/HT battery. The first three units are permanently interconnected. Attached to the transmitter/receiver unit is a leaf spring aerial which fold up to very small dimensions. The SARAH beacon has three modes of operation. In the normal beacon condition pulses on a frequency of 243 MHz are being automatically transmitted. The pulses are transmitted in a rate of 210 pairs per second, the spacing between the pulses in each pair is determined by the coding unit and is a distinguishing feature between the beacons.(Note that the normal beacon operation has much in common with the war-time developed "Walter" beacon). The peak power in this mode is 15 watts and the battery life is about 20 hours continuous operation. 1, record 76, English, - search%20and%20rescue%20and%20homing%20beacon

Recoton develops breakthrough technology which transmits stereo sound through walls, ceilings and floor up to 150 feet. In June 1989, the Federal Communications Commission allocated a band of frequencies stretching from 902 to 928 MHz for wireless, in-home product applications. Recoton, a leading wireless speaker manufacturer, took advantage of the FCC ruling by creating a new speaker system that utilizes this frequency band to transmit clearer, stronger stereo signals throughout your home. You will be able to listen to your stereo, TV, VCR or CD player in any room of your home without having to run miles of speaker wire. The powerful transmitter plugs into a headphone, audio-out or tape-out jack on your stereo or TV component transmitting music wirelessly to your speakers or headphones. One transmitter, unlimited viewers.(En Route, Air-Canada in-flight magazine, June 1994, p. 24). 2, record 100, English, - wireless%20speaker
