MICROBIAL DISEASE [6 records]

Record 1 2020-09-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbial Ecology
CONT

Despite the prevalence of microbes in the ocean and the devastating nature of pathogen-borne epidemics, disease among marine plants appears to be rare, and thus many plants likely possess traits that make them resistant to microbial attack.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Écologie microbienne
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Bacterial Diseases
CONT

Dysbiosis is the condition of having imbalances in the microbial communities either in or on the body. Dysbiosis is associated with many diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Record 3 2014-09-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Bowels
CONT

The intestinal microbes are taxonomically complex and constitute an ecologically dynamic community(microbiota) that has long been believed to possess a strong impact on human physiology. Furthermore, they are heavily involved in the maturation and proliferation of human intestinal cells, helping to maintain their homeostasis and can be causative of various diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease and obesity... Through metagenomic analysis, it is now possible to comprehensively explore the genetic nature of the intestinal microbiome, the mutually interacting system comprising the host cells and the residing microbial community.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Intestins
CONT

  • Epidemiology
DEF

... a scientific discipline dedicated to analysing evidence from a bioterrorism act, biocrime, or inadvertent microorganism [OR] toxin release for attribution purposes.

CONT

Microbial forensics combines principles of public health epidemiology and law enforcement to identify patterns in a disease outbreak, determine which pathogen may be involved, and trace the organism to its source.

CONT

Bioforensics, which is sometimes referred to as microbial forensics, or as forensic microbiology, is a developing interdisciplinary field of microbiology devoted to the development, assessment, and validation of methods for fully characterizing microbial samples for the ultimate purpose of high-confidence comparative analyses. It supports attribution investigations involving pathogens or toxins of biological origin used in a biological attack.

OBS

... the ultimate goal of attribution is identification of the persons who committed the bioterrorist act or biocrime, intentionally or inadvertently. In addition to microbiological analytical tools, traditional forensic analyses, such as human DNA analysis, dermatoglyphic patterns, analytical chemistry, tool marks, and other techniques will be used to analyze a bioterrorist event or biocrime evidence.

  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Épidémiologie
CONT

OBS

Laboratory for Foodborne Zoonoses, Public Health Agency of Canada. The Health Risk Modelling Section develops models, modelling tools and interpretation that improve understanding of the human/animal/microbe interface. The unit provides risk assessments, maintains extensive databases, collects and disseminates information on a variety of microbial food safety issues. The information gathered by the unit and through collaboration with several domestic, international and overseas agencies is used to report on food safety issues, to develop models and to refine quantitative and qualitative risk assessments. Reports and information provided by the Unit are used to identify research needs and potential interventions that may reduce enteric disease in humans and animals.

OBS
