A widely used machine as a primary breaker of coal, rock or ore in mines. It consists essentially of a hollow cone-shaped chamber in which an inner solid cone gyrates on an eccentric bearing. It has a reduction ratio of about 6 and breaks down to a size of about 2 in. It is usual to screen out the fine sizes from run-of-mine coal before feeding it to a gyratory breaker.

There are three types of gyratories - those that have the greatest movement on the smallest lump, those that have equal movement for all lumps, and those that have greatest movement on the largest lump.

the blue flame was produced by blowing primary air into the base of the flame.

Sharp, Blue Flame. When the proper ratio of gas to air is maintained, there will be a sharp, blue flame. Both the outer envelope and the inner cone will be pointed and the sides will be straight. the flame will be resting on the burner ports and there will not be any noticeable blowing noise. The flame will ignite smoothly on demand from the thermostat. Also, it will burn with a nonluminous flame. This is the most desirable flame for heating purposes on standard heating units.
