Heat lows or thermal troughs often build north along the coasts of California and Oregon in the summer. Thermal troughs can cause "east winds" in the Washington and Oregon Cascades. If however, a relatively strong disturbance in the upper atmosphere moves across the NW, it will force the thermal trough east of the Cascades. In most cases, a moderate to strong push of marine air will follow, along with strong, gusty, west winds along the east slopes of the Cascades. Gusty winds and thunderstorms can be associated with the passage of a thermal trough. 2, record 26, English, - thermal%20trough

A front may have troughing along its length, but not all troughs are frontal! Indeed, not all troughs have ’weather’ associated with them in the cloud/rainfall sense. Lee troughs found downwind of a major range of hills/mountains are often cloudless, and thermal troughs forming over land during the day due to mesoscale heating may only be found by careful drawing of isobars : if the air is dry and/or stable, little significant cloud will be associated with this feature. 3, record 26, English, - thermal%20trough

In a long synthetic aperture (array), SAR focusing involves the removal and compensation of path length differences from the antenna to the target on the ground. 2, record 36, English, - SAR%20focusing
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The main advantage of a focused synthetic aperture is that it increases its array length over those radar signals that can be processed, and thus increases potential SAR resolution at any range. SAR focusing is a necessary process when the length of a synthetic array is a significant fraction of the range to ground being imaged, as the lines-of-sight(range) from a particular point on the ground to each individual element of the array differ in distance. These range differences, or path length differences, of the radar signals can affect image quality. In a focused SAR image these phase errors can be compensated for by applying a phase correction to the return signal at each synthetic aperture element. Focusing errors may be introduced by unknown or uncorrected platform motion. In an unfocused SAR image, the usable synthetic aperture length is quite limited. 2, record 36, English, - SAR%20focusing

The energy for complete fracture in double edge-notched tension test specimens has been measured for a wide range of polymer films. Results indicated that the variation of the total specific work of fracture, wT, with ligament length, L, can be described by two straight lines, both of the form wT=we+β wpl, thus giving upper and lower intercept values at zero ligament length(i. e. we) for each film. The first term, we, is the energy absorbed per unit area of fracture, whereas the second term, wp, is the energy absorbed per unit volume of plastic deformation remote from the fracture surface. The lower we value was obtained from the extrapolation of the data within the mixed mode region(plane-stress/plane-strain) where the maximum net-section stress exceeded 1. 15 times that of the tensile yield stress, σy, of the material, and the upper value was ascertained by extrapolating the data within the plane stress region where the net-section stress was 1. 15 σy. It appears that the transition from plane stress to plane strain mode of fracture in thin films occurs at a ligament length much greater than 5B, where B is the specimen thickness. 1, record 41, English, - stress%20region

Caissons... are load-bearing enclosures sunk into the ground, usually to protect excavation for a foundation, aid construction of the substructure, and serve as part of the permanent structure.... In foundations, caissons are used to facilitate construction of shafts or piers extending from near the surface of land or water to a bearing stratum. This type of construction can carry heavy loads to great depths.... They range in size from abut that of a pile to over 100 ft in length and width. Some small ones are considered caisson piles....
Record number: 50, Textual support number: 2 OBS
2, record 50, French, - clou%20de%204%20pouces

The Rohde & Schwarz active rod antenna HE010 allows a sensitivity which is near the theoretical maximum even for small atmospheric-noise figures. The antenna, only 1 m in length, operates in the frequency range 10 KHz to 80 MHz, is largely immune to noise signals, has two isolated outputs and is therefore able to feed two receiving paths in wideband operation without reducing the sensitivity. The study mechanical construction of glassfibre-reinforced polyester and the wide voltage range from 18 to 35 V make the rod antenna particularly suitable for mobile use. 1, record 57, English, - active%20rod%20antenna

1, record 57, French, - antenne%2Dtige%20active
