Le dévirage d’une pompe correspond à un fonctionnement en turbine, en sens de rotation inverse de son sens de rotation normal. Le dévirage intervient lors d’un arrêt de la pompe, lorsque l’installation ne comporte ni clapet de pied, ni clapet droit (au refoulement de la pompe), ni vanne automatique à fermeture rapide, ou si l’un de ces organes est défaillant.
