L'expression «for the purposes of» peut se rendre de diverses façons selon le contexte. La traduction la plus facile qui vient à l'esprit est «aux fins de». Mais il convient de noter que, même en droit, la fréquence d'emploi d'«aux fins de» est bien moindre que celle de «for the purposes of».

«Aux fins de» ne s'emploie qu'avec un nom d'action et sans article [...] : «aux fins d'examen (de consultation, d'application de la partie II, etc.)». Par conséquent, les formules du genre aux fins de l'impôt, aux fins de l'article 10, aux fins de vendre, etc. sont à proscrire.
