[...] La densité réelle est une caractéristique invariable pour un sol donné; les valeurs mesurées sont souvent de l'ordre de 2,5. La densité apparente varie avec le tassement et l'état structural du sol; pour les sols gonflants elle dépend aussi de leur humidité. La densité apparente est souvent comprise entre 1 et 1,5.
