Microorganisms in the surface layers of the ocean are known to produce dimethylsulfide, DMS, which escapes into the atmosphere. DMS in the air leads to the production of particles that act as seeds, or nuclei, for cloud droplets to form. More solar energy means more DMS, which means more cloud cover and less solar energy reaching the sea -- a stabilizing, negative feedback, just the opposite of the kind of runaway positive feedback envisaged in Mahlman's scary scenario. 10, record 40, English, - %28methylsulfanyl%29methane

Domesticated animals emit methane. The second-most important greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide, methane, is produced by cattle, dairy cows, buffalo, goats, sheep, camels, pigs, and horses. Most livestock-related methane emissions are produced by "enteric fermentation" of food by bacteria and other microbes in the animals' digestive tracts; another source is the decomposition of animal manure. 2, record 51, French, - d%C3%A9gazage%20du%20m%C3%A9thane
