The layers of hydrothermal products in most deposits are internally laminated. Their appearance, which is varve-like, has led to their interpretation as products of brine pool sedimentation or fallout from a hydrothermal plume that has accumulated in a low energy environment.

Dans la majorité des gîtes, les couches de produits hydrothermaux présentent une lamination interne. En raison de leur aspect qui rappelle les varves, on considère ces couches comme les produits d'une sédimentation dans un bassin de saumures ou les retombées d'un panache hydrothermal qui se seraient accumulées dans un milieu de faible énergie.
