Hydrotimétrie. Mesure de la dureté d'une eau, c'est-à-dire de sa teneur en sels de calcium et magnésium, qui entartrent les canalisations par précipitation. La mesure de la teneur en sels de carbonate de de magnésium est exprimée par le titre hydrotimétrique (TH), en degrés TH; elle s'effectue en évaluant le volume de savon liquide qu'il faut ajouter à un volume donné d'eau avant d'obtenir la formation de mousse. Un degré hydrotimétrique (degré français aussi noté °f) correspond à 10 mg de carbonate de calcium par litre d'eau, à 25°C.
