Le détecteur est relié à un électromètre (système d'amplification du signal obtenu à la détection). Le signal donné par le détecteur est en général filtré à travers une résistance calibrée appelée atténuateur d'entrée puis, amplifié par l'électromètre. Le signal amplifié traverse un atténuateur de sortie à l'enregistreur. L'atténuateur de sortie atténue les signaux donnés par l'électromètre de façon à faire cadrer à l'intérieur de la plage d'enregistrement les pics obtenus au cours de l'analyse. Lorsque l'enregistrement est effectué sur intégrateur ou sur ordinateur, l'atténuateur de sortie n'est pas nécessaire.
