AIR-TO-FUEL RATIO [2 records]

Record 1 2011-10-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fueling Systems (Motor Vehicles)
DEF

The proportions of air and fuel (by weight) supplied for combustion.

CONT

The influence of oxygen is important because of growing interest in applying oxygen enrichment to natural gas-fired industrial furnaces. The advantage of adding oxygen to the air or fuel stream, while keeping the air-to-fuel ratio constant, is increased heat flux - this results in more efficient combustion design. Oxygen enrichment for the intake air of internal combustion engines has also been considered, as a measure to control exhaust pollutants, especially particulate emissions, from diesel engines.

Domaine(s)
  • Alimentation (Véhicules automobiles)
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Combustion and Fuels (Fireplaces)
DEF

the ratio of air supply flow rate to the fuel supply flow rate, measured in the same units under the same conditions. The optimum air-fuel ratio is the minimum ratio that will provide complete combustion of the fuel with enough excess air to maintain a stable flame envelope.

Key term(s)
