This new undertaking commits the two countries to border service programs that promote international trade, reduce the cost and burden of compliance, promote tourism, improve service, increase trade, and speed the movement of goods and people between Canada and the U.S. The Accord also strengthens enforcement through a focus on the smuggling of guns, drugs, and other contraband, and on high-risk travellers.

Ce nouvel accord consacre l'engagement pris par les deux pays à offrir des services frontaliers qui favorisent le commerce international, permettront de réduire les coûts et le fardeau associés à l'observation des lois et des règlements, de promouvoir le tourisme, d'améliorer le service, d'accroître le commerce et d'accélérer la circulation, entre le Canada et les États-Unis, des marchandises et des particuliers. L'accord permettra en outre de renforcer les capacités d'application des lois, notamment en mettant l'accent sur la contrebande d'armes, de drogues et d'autres marchandises, ainsi que sur les voyageurs à risque élevé.
