Un emballage composite (matière plastique) est un emballage constitué d'un récipient en matière plastique et d'une protection extérieure (en tôle métallique, carton, contreplaqué, etc.) fabriqué de façon que le récipient et la protection extérieure forment un emballage indissociable aux fins de transport. Une fois assemblé, il demeure par la suite un seul élément intégral; comme tel, il est rempli, emmagasiné, expédié et vidé.
