The Division's area of responsibilities comprises pathogens transmitted by blood i.e., through transfusion or shared needle use. These pathogens include HIV, HTLV and hepatitis B,C,D and G. The Division is also responsible when blood-borne transmission is theoretical (e.g. Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease).
