The European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA), together with member states, have decided to unite their expertise in order to set up a project for the observation of the Earth called EEOS (European Earth Observation System). This project, started in November 1992, consists essentially of : The identification of the multiple sources of earth observation data in Europe; The assessment of the requirements of users of earth observation products and services; The promotion of these sources of information and services; The improvement of access and exchange.
