TRISO - Tristructural isotropic fuel, a type of micro fuel particle consisting of a fuel kernel composed of uranium oxide (sometimes uranium carbide) in the center, coated with four layers of three isotropic materials.

La conception de la particule fissile retenue par la plupart des fabricants dans le monde est celle de la particule de type «TRISO» (pour TRistructural ISOtropic) composée d'un noyau combustible (le plus souvent d'UO2) sphérique (de 100 à 800 [micromoles] de diamètre), assurant la puissance désirée mais aussi ayant pour qualité de retenir autant que faire se peut ses produits de fission, confiné par un sandwich de trois couches de céramiques denses : une couche de carbure de silicium entre deux couches de pyrocarbone.
