HARD CORE CELL [1 record]

Record 1 2004-10-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric, Climatic and Meteorological Phenomena
  • Air Transport
DEF

A region of relatively strong updraughts having spatial and temporal coherency.

CONT

The life cycle of a thunderstorm cell can be divided into three stages ... (1) the cumulus stage, (2) the mature stage, and (3) the dissipation stage.

CONT

Flying to Oshkosh ... One big thundercell is right in our Loran course.

CONT

The number of simultaneously active thunder cells ("thunderstorms") over the globe is about 1000-2000, so the whole circuit carries a current of about 1000 amperes.

OBS

These updraughts give rise to local regions of intense precipitation, which may not be exactly colocated with the updraughts. It is normally identified by radar as a relatively intense volume of precipitation or a local, relative maximum in reflectivity.

Domaine(s)

  • Transport aérien
DEF
