On obtient le coefficient de performance de la saison de chauffage (CPSC) en divisant la quantité totale de chaleur (en Btu) produite par une thermopompe durant toute une saison de chauffage par la quantité totale d'énergie (en wattheures) consommée durant la même période. Cette valeur est semblable au rendement saisonnier des systèmes de chauffage à combustible et comprend l'énergie utilisée pour le chauffage supplémentaire.
