Worldwide, nine different species of Gasterophilus exist, primarily affecting horses and donkeys. ... Gasterophilus intestinalis (DeGeer) is the more common horse bot fly which is an internal parasite of the gastrointestinal tract. Gasterophilus nasalis (Linnaeus), the nose bot fly, and G. haemorrhoidalis (Linnaeus), the throat bot fly, are also distributed throughout North America.
