Les analyses électrophorétiques des protéines synthétisées in vivo et in vitro ont montré un certain nombre de gènes s'exprimant de façon séquentielle au cours de la germination de la graine de radis. Les polypeptides correspondant aux ARNm prépondérants et caractéristiques d'un stade donné ont été répertoriés. Trois familles de gènes ont ensuite été étudiés à l'aide de sondes de cDNA clonées : les deux première codent pour les cruciférines et les napines qui sont les protéines de réserve majeures des crucifères et ne s'expriment que pendant une période bien définie de l'embryogenèse.
