CONT

The Mississippi Air National Guard (ANG) was able to enclose an entire KC-135 aircraft in the same floor area as a traditional "tailout" nose dock hangar by shaping the hangar to fit the shape of the aircraft, while reducing building costs and saving energy. ... Aircraft hangars have always been "box shaped" structures to house aircraft. Doors have traditionally been of the metal sliding, metal canopy or metal bi-fold lifting type. When newer longer aircraft were made to fit into an existing aircraft hangar, the usual design treatment was to construct an aperture in the hangar door and let the aircraft tail stick outside the hangar, exposing the tail to the outside elements (a nose dock).
