Dans le «comblement organique», [d'un réseau karstique], le rôle des végétaux paraît assez faible et pratiquement limité aux obstructions temporaires des pertes, lorsque troncs d'arbres, branchages, feuilles et humus les colmatent après des crues, ce qui provoque l'apparition de lacs et marécages, comme dans les poljés de Yougoslavie. Les animaux par contre, peuvent entraîner des conséquences beaucoup plus notables, soit que l'on ait affaire à l'accumulation des corps eux-mêmes, soit qu'il s'agisse d'un remplissage par leurs déjections. Le premier cas correspond aux dépôts de brèches osseuses et de phosphates de chaux, le second aux dépôts de guanos.
