Le terrain de Natashquan, secteur oriental de la Province de Grenville, se distingue en tout premier lieu par la préservation partielle du Groupe de Wakeham, une séquence épicontinentale du Mésoprotérozoïque précoce (~1.5 Ga). Cette séquence a été partiellement démembrée lors de la mise en place des nombreux filons-couches de gabbro de la Suite de La Robe-Noire il y a ~1.18 Ga, avant d'être reprise par le métamorphisme régional qui a accompagné la formation de la fosse synclinale de Davy et la structuration des terrains gneissiques avoisinants dont le Complexe de Boulain.
