Le groupe japonais Sanyo Electric vient d'annoncer la mise au point de ce qu'il considère comme le premier transistor supraconducteur à effet tunnel du monde; réalisé au moyen d'une faible couche de Ba-K-Bi-O, de l'épaisseur d'un seul cristal, déposée sur un substrat d'oxyde semi-conducteur, également très mince, ce nouveau composant serait en mesure d'offrir une vitesse de commutation dix fois plus grande que celle des semi-conducteurs bipolaires, en n'utilisant qu'à peine un centième du courant d'alimentation de ceux-ci.
