A system of drilling in which the drill bit is directly rotated by a turbine that is attached to the end of the drill pipe at the bottom of the hole and that is driven by drilling mud pumped under high pressure.

Mode de forage qui consiste à mettre en œuvre une turbine, placée juste au-dessus du trépan et mise en mouvement par le fluide de forage circulant sous pression, les tiges n'étant pas alors soumises au mouvement de rotation.

Dans le turbo-forage seule la turbine tourne. Son inertie est relativement élevée et sa vitesse grande. Ceci compense l'immobilité du train de tiges. Mais, dans certains cas, il peut être avantageux de réunir le trépan à la turbine par quelques mètres de masse-tige. Enfin on peut ajouter un ou deux stabilisateurs au-dessus de la turbine [...] La technique du turbo-forage est maintenant au point et l'on sait diriger la turbine comme on l'entend.
