Resembling ripples on water, altocumulus undulatus clouds result from wind shear-wind speed or direction that changes sharply with height. They may appear as patches or cover the sky.

Altocumulus undulatus clouds are a mixture of water and ice clouds. They are likely to bring precipitation within 15 to 20 hours if wind is steady NE to S. Other wind directions bring overcast skies.
