In 2002, the North American Committee marked its 45th anniversary. Founded in 1957 as the Canadian-American Committee, it was the principal organization focusing primarily on issues common to Canada and the United States during its first 37 years. In 1994, Mexico accepted an invitation to join the Committee and its name was changed to the North American Committee.
