Any product obtained by condensation of the vapours of a petroleum product when it is distilled under atmospheric pressure or under reduced pressure. [Definition standardized by ISO.]

CONT

As fuel, distillates are generally within the 400° to 650°F (204° to 343°C) boiling range and include Nos. 1 and 2 fuel, diesel, and kerosine.

La distillation [...] est l'opération par laquelle sont séparés un ou plusieurs constituants d'un mélange initialement liquide, en mettant à profit leurs températures d'ébullition différentes. Le liquide chauffé jusqu'à l'ébullition, est amené partiellement à l'état de vapeur; celle-ci est immédiatement condensée sur une paroi froide; elle donne alors un liquide appelé «distillat» qui doit avoir une composition différente du mélange initial pour que l'opération soit intéressante.

Les distillats comprennent les essences, les kérosènes, les gas-oils et les lubrifiants, par opposition aux résidus.
