Le but d'un test est souvent de permettre un pronostic relativement à un critère, un critère de réussite professionnelle par exemple. La valeur du test est alors mesurée par le coefficient de corrélation entre le test et le critère. Ce coefficient s'appelle coefficient de validité.

«indice de validité» : Les auteurs utilisent «coefficient» et «indice» de façon interchangeable. Il est impossible de déterminer s'ils le sont vraiment.
