Spectrographie photographique. Technique qui décompose la lumière des corps célestes en ses éléments constituants et les fixe sur une plaque photographique. Le but est d'obtenir, d'après la composition de la lumière, des données concernant la composition chimique des gaz émis, leur température, leur pression, les champs électriques et magnétiques, etc., ou bien des renseignements concernant la nature d'éventuels nuages absorbants entre la source et l'observateur. La décomposition s'effectue à l'aide d'un spectrographe qui, en astronomie, est utilisé en combinaison avec un viseur.
