The valves that direct steam to the condenser are called condenser steam discharge valves or CSDVs. At some stations, the steam is discharged to atmosphere via Steam Reject Valves (SRVs); at other locations, the steam is discharged directly to the condenser via Condenser Steam Discharge (Dump) Valves (CSDVs).

On appelle soupapes d'évacuation de vapeur dans le condenseur (SEVC) ces vannes qui dirigent la vapeur au condenseur. Dans certaines centrales, la vapeur est évacuée vers l'atmosphère au moyen de vannes de rejet de vapeur (VRV); à d'autres endroits, la vapeur est déchargée directement vers le condenseur à l'aide de vannes de décharge de vapeur du condenseur (VDVC).
