La différence entre feuilles et films semble tenir à la découpe du matériau, en formant pour la feuille, en bobine pour le film, mais c'est l'épaisseur qui généralement commande la distinction. En fait, on parlera de feuille si l'épaisseur est supérieure à 0,5 mm, de film pour des épaisseurs inférieures qui, dans la pratique, sont souvent de l'ordre de quelques centièmes de millimètres.
