indiscriminate, undiscriminating

Both indiscriminate and undiscriminating refer to a lack of discernment, taste or judgment.

  • To the undiscriminating eye, Riopelle’s works may look like indiscriminate spatterings of heavy paint on canvas.
  • Search engines are undiscriminating robots: they find relevant and irrelevant information and list it all.

Indiscriminate also conveys the meaning of “haphazard” or “random.”

  • Indiscriminate arrests of peaceful protesters and onlookers resulted in civil suits against the police.
