Ibero-

Ibero- is a combining form meaning “Iberia, Iberian.” Iberia is the ancient Greek name for the peninsula on which modern-day Spain and Portugal are located; the combining form thus refers to Spain and Portugal (or to Spanish and Portuguese).

  • Ibero-America includes all Spanish‑ and Portuguese-speaking countries in the Americas.
