Macintosh, McIntosh, macintosh, mackintosh

Note the different spellings of Macintosh (a computer), McIntosh (an apple) and macintosh or mackintosh (a waterproof coat).

  • Pat took off her mackintosh, turned on her Macintosh and logged in, while chewing thoughtfully on a ripe, red McIntosh.
  • Charles Macintosh invented the rubberized fabric used in the macintosh (or mackintosh) raincoat.

Informally, the computer or the apple may be called a Mac and the coat a mac.

  • Pat took of her mac and turned on her Mac.
