The permanent Policy Research Secretariat (PRS) was created in 1997 to support four interdepartmental research networks (Growth, Human Development, Social Cohesion, and Global Opportunities) and a research pilot project (Knowledge-Based Economy and Society). The emphasis was on creating ties between the federal and broader Canadian policy research community with the PRI filling the role of facilitator and synthesizer.
