The acceleration principle received its name from the accelerated effect of a change in production or income on levels of investment-equipment or inventory. Acceleration can work in both positive and negative directions. When output grows, acceleration in investment is positive; when output declines, acceleration is negative. Thus, net investment-additions to the capital stock-will occur only when production or income is growing.

La décélération de l'avion produire l'effet inverse, c'est-à-dire, une fausse impression de piqué.
