The Aircraft to Satellite Data Relay(ASDAR) programme is sponsored by an International meteorological group in order to augment the collection of upper air meteorological data, and thereby improve the accuracy of global weather forescasting. It has been developed by Matra Marconi Space, UK in collaboration with the WMO to enable aircraft to generate and transmit real-time meteorological reports via geostationary meteorological satellites for global relay. It is an automated system offering significant advantages, including reduced crew responsibility delays and errors. ASDAR, operating in conjunction with meteorological satellites, has proved to be a versatile tool in obtaining meteorological data automatically from flights over both oceans and continents, especially over areas not serviced by meteorological stations. In addition, during the ascent and descent phases of the aircraft, observations at regular pressure intervals provide a detailed vertical atmospheric temperature profile near the airports. The meteorological data provided by this system has proved to be very useful for improving the weather forecasting service.

Currently, only one temperature reading in the aft flight deck of the orbiter is available for adjusting model predictions for real-time environments. Micro-WIS will also reduce the time it takes the crew to obtain on-orbit temperature measurements and will increase the capability to monitor temperatures over long periods.... Micro-WIS data will also be used to validate cabin air temperature models that are used to make critical predictions of the dew point on early ISS [International Space Station] missions, which is important because orbiter cabin air exerts a significant influence on the entire station volume. Although the physical configuration of the air ducts in the orbiter cabin has been changed significantly, the sensors have remained the same and some temperature data has never been available.

Quest pèse 6.5 tonnes, et il a coûté la bagatelle de 164 millions de dollars. Il est constitué de deux chambres. La première, la plus grande et celle qui est directement liée à la Station, est [appelée] chambre d'équipement. Dans cette pièce se trouvent les combinaisons et autres équipements nécessaires à une EVA (Extra-vehicular activity). Les astronautes y pénètrent et revêtent leur combinaison, qu'elle soit russe ou américaine. Ensuite, ils pénètrent dans le sas proprement dit par une écoutille intermédiaire. Le sas, plus petit, comporte un éclairage, des rampes et des interfaces pour le branchement des combinaisons aux réseaux électrique, informatique et de communication de la Station. Une fois à l'intérieur, les astronautes, ferment l'écoutille intermédiaire. La dépressurisation s'effectue et l'écoutille donnant vers l'extérieur peut enfin être ouverte. Dans l'autre sens, le sas est repressurisé à l'aide de réservoirs d'oxygène et d'azote comprimés, situés sur l'extérieur du module Quest.

BIOBOX(BBX) is a Space rated incubator. The BBX facility uses Peltier devices to heat and cool air that is circulated inside the insulated experiment container. There are three static sample containers and one centrifuge. The centrifuge spins at a specific speed to simulate one-g for reference. The static sample containers hold eight plunger boxes each. The plunger boxes are identical to units flown for biorack. There are no crew interfaces to BBX. It will be powered pre-flight, during ascent, during descent and post-landing. It is also a late access and early retrieval item. It will be mounted on the Aft bulkhead and replace three lockers.

Environmental Control Systems Trainer. Additional training in the operation of the environmental control system was provided by the environmental control systems trainer which was a heavy shell mock-up with a prototype spacecraft environmental system. The device used was delivered to NASA in November 1960 and installed in a man-rated vacuum chamber at the U. S. Naval Air Crew Equipment Laboratory in Philadelphia(fig. 10-1(1)). During December of 1960 and January of 1961, the astronauts participated in a program of system familiarization that included being exposed to a simulated reentry heat pulse and approximately 2 hours of the expected postlanding temperature. During these runs, the astronauts wore the pressure suits and became familiar with function of the suits when associated with the environmental control system. However, since a provision had been made for simulating the suit function in the procedures trainer, this type of training was not considered essential This was particularly true since the astronauts received further first-hand familiarization to the environmental control system by participating in the preflight checkout of the spacecraft environmental control system at the launch site.

Dans la Loi sur l'aéronautique (C.22 - Transporteurs aériens utilisant des avions petits porteurs) on dit que l'épreuve de contrôle de compétence doit être subie sous l'autorité d'un inspecteur du ministère des Transports. De plus, dans l'annuaire téléphonique du Gouvernement canadien, on retrouve un service qui s'appelle "Inspection des transporteurs aériens". On peut donc déduire que l'inspecteur responsable des épreuves de contrôle de compétence est un inspecteur des transporteurs aériens.
