A camera equipped with a mirror, or mirror and prism, whereby the subject is viewed through the camera lens rather than through a separate viewfinder.

CONT

The key to the single-lens reflex camera is a mirror. Light coming in through the camera lens is reflected upward by this mirror to a viewing screen, then through a five-sided prism that turns the inverted image right-side up and right-side round and delivers it to the eye. When a picture is taken, the mirror snaps up momentarily... permitting light to strike the film at the back of the camera. Through-the-lens viewing produces an image virtually identical with that produced on the film.

There are two types of cut film holders, one for use with the Graflex type back and the other for the Graflok back. They are practically identical. A slot is cut in each edge of the long dimension side of the Graflex holder to permit locking it on the camera. The Graphic holder has no slots. It is held in place on the camera beneath the focusing panel by the springs of the Graflok back.

Therefore, vertical deflection circuits for either the camera tube or the picture tube operate at 60 Hz. The time of each vertical scanning cycle for one field is 1/60 s.

The most recent development with electronic flash units was born of a marriage of electronics between the camera and flash unit. They are known as "dedicated" or "electronically matched. "When used with cameras having the proper circuitry, they can set the camera's shutter to its correct synchronization speed(and surrender control back to the camera while recycling), activate ready-light indicators and confidence lights in the viewfinder, and, in some cases, set the camera to the appropriate f-number.
