Some tennis players consider the terms "dink" and "chip" to be synonymous. However, semantically speaking, "dink" is more generic in that it may refer to any shallow shot hit with or without much spin. Moreover, "dink" usually implies a certain degree of ruse and deception in conjunction with the use of appropriate body language, whereas "chip" implies no deception.

A horizontal bar of wood extending between two posts and used as an element of an obstacle to be jumped over by the horse and rider in show jumping; it is set so that, if touched, it can fall from the rests.

The designer [of a show jumping course] can choose from a wide range of jumps that fall into three main categories : uprights, spreads, and triples. Uprights are jumps with the elements placed one above the other. An example is the post and rail, which has poles placed one above the other between two posts. This jump can generally be made higher or lower by adjusting the rests or cups on to the posts. A spread in an obstacle set up so that the horse has to jump both height and width. Spreads include the well-known water jump, the double oxer(two sets of uprights with a hedge sandwiched between), and the hog's back(three parallel rails, with the middle rail higher than the other two). The most common triple is the triple bars, which has three poles on separate supports. The poles are set [at] different heights, with the lowest one at the front. The jumps looks a bit like a staircase. Combinations are two or more jumps placed so close together that the horse can take only one or two strides between each one. Three jumps is the maximum in a combination.

Many spacecraft use small rockets called thrusters to move around in space. Thrusters can change the speed and direction of a spacecraft. They allow a spacecraft to steer in space, to jump to a higher orbit, or to fall back to Earth.

The control rocket is a vernier or other rocket used to control the attitude of, or slightly change the speed of, a spacecraft.

The propulsion subsystem featured sets of small thrusters and a main engine. The thrusters were used to perform Odyssey’s attitude control and trajectory correction manoeuvres, while the main engine was used to place the spacecraft in orbit around Mars. The main engine, which used hydrazine propellant with nitrogen tetroxide as an oxidiser, produced a minimum thrust of 65.3 kilograms of force. Each of the four thrusters used for attitude control produce a thrust of 0.1 kilogram of force. Four 2.3-kilogram-force thrusters were used for turning the spacecraft. In addition to miscellaneous tubing, pyro valves and filters, the propulsion subsystem also included a single gaseous helium tank used to pressurise the fuel and oxidiser tanks. The propulsion subsystem weighed 49.7 kilograms.

A series of temperature measurements taken at various levels in the atmosphere that show the thermal structure of the atmosphere over a specific location.

The type of precipitation that will fall from clouds in any given storm is largely dependent on what is called the vertical temperature profile. A vertical temperature profile is a series of temperature measurements taken at various levels of the troposphere. Meteorologists send up weather balloons twice each day to detect the air temperatures at different elevations in the troposphere. During the winter months, access to temperature data reported back from weather balloons helps meteorologists to more accurately forecast what type of precipitation is on the way. Temperature profiles, however, can change completely due to many factors in the troposphere.

Most diagrams of boiling kettles show a straight-sided kettle with a round bottom and interior steam jackets/coils. Some are also direct-fired. However, one diagram shows the same type of kettle, sans steam internal steam coils or flame. erupting prominences. Although prominence equilibria are maintained on a long period of time, many quiescent prominences do ultimately erupt in a dramatic event lasting only a few hours. Le remplissage de ce tube donne ainsi une image inversée des terrains traversés. Pour que son emploi soit possible, il faut que le diamètre des tiges soit nettement plus faible que celui du forage.

Vacuum breakers are basically anti-syphonage preventers and should never be used where there is any possibility of back pressure. They fall into 2 categories : a. Atmospheric Type... b. Pressure Type... The atmospheric type vacuum breaker is designed for intermittent service only. It should never be installed with a shut-off valve on the outlet side. It should only be used where it will be under pressure for short periods(maximum : 12 hours in a 24-hour period), not under pressure most of the time. Typical applications are : a. Washing Machines; b. Lawn Sprinkler Systems; c. Photographic Developing Tanks; and d. Vending Machines. This type of vacuum breaker is mounted directly in the line, and has a limited flow capacity due to the fact that line flow passes through the vacuum breaker.
