A propeller the blades of which have been rotated so that the leading and trailing edges are nearly parallel with the aircraft flight path to stop or minimize drag and engine rotation.

The term "feathering" refers to the operation of rotating the blades of a propeller to an edge-to-the-wing position for the purpose of stopping the rotation of the propeller whose blades are thus feathered and to reduce drag. Therefore, a feathered blade is in an approximate in-line-of-flight position, streamlined with the line of flight. Some, but not all, propellers can be feathered. Feathering is necessary when an engine fails or when it is desirable to shut off an engine in flight. The pressure of the air on the face and back of the feathered blade is equal, and the propeller will stop rotating. If it is not feathered when its engine stops driving it, the propeller will "windmill" and cause drag. Another advantage of being able to feather a propeller is that a feathered propeller creates less resistance(drag) and disturbance to the flow of air over the wings and tail of the airplane.

A valley breeze develops during the day as the sun heats the land surface and air at the valley bottom and sides... As the air heats it becomes less dense and buoyant and begins to flow gently up the valley sides. Vertical ascent of the air rising along the sides of the mountain is usually limited by the presence of a temperature inversion layer. When the ascending air currents encounter the inversion they are forced to move horizontally and then back down to the valley floor. This creates a self-contained circulation system. If conditions are right, the rising air can condense and form into cumuliform clouds.

Balanced-pressure proportioners and around-the-pump proportioners are both systems that are built into the apparatus fire pump.... The Ausroc 3(A3) launch vehicle has a liquid fuelled motor that burns JA-1 kerosene with liquid oxygen, and uses regenerative cooling. The motor produces 35 kN at sea level and has a burn time of 80 seconds. The motor is gimballed to facilitate pitch and yaw control. The wall of the combustion chamber, throat and expansion nozzle consists of 102 stainless steel tubes stacked side by side running parallel to the motor axis. The tubes will be brazed together and the assembly wrapped in a carbon fibre composite. The composite wrapping is used to relieve to tubes of the hoop stress generated by the combustion pressure(2 MPa), whilst the tubes contain the combustion heat(3500 K). The top end of the motor has a kerosene inlet manifolt, oxygen dome and injector block. The kerosene inlet manifold delivers kerosene to every second motor tube, where it travels down to the arse end of the motor. Here it enters the lower kerosene manifold which is a simple plenum ring. This allows the kerosene to flow into the other alternate tubes which deliver it back up to the inlet manifold. The inlet manifold then directs the kerosene to the injector block, which sprays it and the liquid oxygen into the combustion chamber.

A supercharger which is located between the carburetor outlet and the intake manifold of the engine is called an internal supercharger. A supercharger thus located serves to provide a uniform distribution of the fuel-air charge to the various cylinders, as well as to increase the density of the charge. Maintaining a high manifold pressure ahead of the intake valves allows the use of "valve overlap" in the engine, so that the intake valve opens just before the exhaust valve closes at the end of the exhaust stroke. This allows the compressed mixture from the intake manifold to scavenge the spent gases out of the clearance volume of the cylinder and also tends to improve the cooling of the exhaust valve. This cooling is of particular importance when operating at "military" or "take-off" power. With no supercharging between the carburetor and the intake valves, "valve overlapping" would permit exhaust gases to flow back into the intake manifold. This would cause backfiring and dilution of the next charge of mixture with burned exhaust gases.

OBS

There is another difference between internally driven superchargers and turbochargers ... The internal supercharger compresses the fuel/air mixture after it leaves the carburetor or fuel metering device, while the turbocharger compresses the air before it is mixed with metered fuel.

The vent gases pass through the inside of a 36" double pipe condenser so that any condensable gasses will condense out and run down the walls back into the condenser.

Vacuum breakers are basically anti-syphonage preventers and should never be used where there is any possibility of back pressure. They fall into 2 categories : a. Atmospheric Type... b. Pressure Type... The atmospheric type vacuum breaker is designed for intermittent service only. It should never be installed with a shut-off valve on the outlet side. It should only be used where it will be under pressure for short periods(maximum : 12 hours in a 24-hour period), not under pressure most of the time. Typical applications are : a. Washing Machines; b. Lawn Sprinkler Systems; c. Photographic Developing Tanks; and d. Vending Machines. This type of vacuum breaker is mounted directly in the line, and has a limited flow capacity due to the fact that line flow passes through the vacuum breaker.

The circulation of heated air between adjacent rooms and different levels can be improved by using vents. Properly located floor vents can assist the natural convection cycle of rising warm air and falling cool air by providing a path. For example, the central stairway in a two-storey home allows warm air to reach the second floor, but circulation is limited because there is little return of displaced air back to the ground floor. Add one or two floor vents near outside walls and the cooler air upstairs will flow down through the vents and back towards the heater.
